I grabbed my brush sitting on my desk and brushed my wavy blonde hair. I turned to the side and stared at my hair curve around my body. It was long, too long. I walked out the door ignoring Nicole. We had a fight but she wouldn’t get over it. I broke up with my boyfriend and she loved him as a friend but she doesn’t understand that he doesn’t respect me. My mum doesn’t even understand me. No one does. Its like im in a world I don’t belong in. The only person I have is myself. But it’s hard to control my anger when nothing in my life is ever good. Im now forced to see a counsellor. To me he looks like a killer. I try so hard to make up excuses to not go but Nicole is too smart.
I walked through the forest, pushing the thick bushes out of my face and stumbled on a rock and fell. I looked up at the beach right in front of me. The sun was shining down on the sea. Like little crystals were just sitting on the water. I walked along the beach letting the sand curl through my toes. The wind was so strong it was almost pushing me over. I sat down and digged my hands into the sand. The water came up to my toes and sent shivers down my back. The water was freezing! The sun hid behind the clouds and left a big dark shadow over everything. But something shiny caught my eye. As soon as I looked up something splashed me with water. I thought that it would probably be some silly little kid but it was something else…it had amazing hair that curled down his fine round face and he had the greenest eyes I had ever seen. But the thing that amazed me most was his long, beautiful tail. He was like a merman I used to see in my books when I was little but he was different. He dipped into the water and his tail lifted up into the air. It was green just like his eyes. And it glittered in the sun and was so shiny I had to look away. It came closer to the shore and it felt like my heart was going to jump out of me. I reached out my hand, curious to touch his tail but he saw what I was doing and he disappeared. A wave of disappointment rushed through my body. This was something that no one had ever experienced before and I had to ruin it. I looked up at the dangerous cliffs. The fog was so low I couldn’t see the top of them. I walked into the water and swam out as far as I could. He wasn’t anywhere. What if he never came back? One thing I hadn’t realised was that fog was all around me. I looked everywhere but had no idea where I was. I breathed in and out and told myself not to panic but I couldn’t see anything. Suddenly in the corner of my eye a shadow swam past but it was so quick I couldn’t see it. An awful high-pitched scream filled my ears. The creature came under me and pulled me with it. I grabbed onto the tail and screamed as loud as I could. Adrenaline rushed through me and I felt so free. I screamed even louder and then that awful scream filled the air again. I shoved my hands over my ears and closed my eyes. I fell back into the water and struggled to stay at the surface while my mouth filled with salt water. I accidentally swallowed the water and gasped for air. My eyes adjusted to the fog and I managed to make it back to shore.
I slowly walked up the road. My throat was so dry it felt like I had swallowed sand. I couldn’t stop thinking about that creature. His face was so beautiful. It was like a dream. I didn’t know if this was real or not. But it was my secret. No one would know but me. As I was opening the door of my house I could hear mum blabbing on the phone to one of her friends. When I walked up the stairs to my room she didn’t even notice me. I dropped onto my bed and closed my eyes. I could see that creatures face in my mind. I smiled to myself.
When I woke up it was dark in my room I must of fell asleep. It was unusual for me to just dose off like that. But I completely forgot about that when I opened my door and this delicious smell filled the air. I ran downstairs to the table and jumped in my chair. Mum was making her delicious lasagne. As soon as she put the plate down in front of me I picked up my fork and stuffed the food in my mouth. Nicole gave me a weird look “Girls are certainly not meant to act that way. So stop eating that way and learn some manners” I gulped down my food and poked my tongue out at her. She laughed and left the room.
The next morning I woke up to a rainy day. But I liked rainy days. I wasn’t like those girls who just wanted summer to last forever and hated to go out into the rain because they would get their “precious” hair wet. I slipped my dress on and ran outside. I tilted my face up to the sky and let the icy cold droplets hit my face. It was nice and refreshing. When I walked into class I was dripping wet. My teacher looked at me with a disappointed face and said “Oh Kayla couldn’t you wait till after school to do that? It’s not good to walk around in wet clothes. Now go down to the office and ask for dry clothes”. I gave out a loud sigh and walked towards the office. Someone was calling out my name from behind me and from the sound of his deep voice I knew it was Seth. I stared at him as he ran over to me, his silky brown hair falling on to his face as he stopped right in front of me. I had to look up at him as he was talking. He was way taller than me. I pushed his hair aside so I could see his gorgeous grey eyes. As I looked closely at them I could see a hint of green in them. He looked down at me with a weird expression on his face “Uhh why are you looking at me that way?”
I realised I must have been smiling and looked away blushing. Seth was like my best friend. We told each other everything. He knew all of my bad little secrets but I also knew his. All the other girls were jealous because they didn’t have a relationship with a guy like Seth and I. It kind of made me feel lucky. I have always had a little crush on him but I know that telling him would wreck our friendship forever. Then as we were walking a brilliant idea popped into my head. I jumped in front of him and said “So do you want to come outside with me so my dress can dry? It looks sunnier outside now!”
He scratched his head and thought for a while “Hmm I guess so but lets go out onto the grass. Its always the sunniest there”
We walked past the classrooms and lay down on the warm grass. The sun was so bright and hot it was burning my skin already. I turned over to my side and looked over at Seth. He was staring right at me. It felt awkward not talking and I was about to say something but he butted in. “Are you and your boyfriend still fighting?”
“Well no and he’s not my boyfriend he is my ex-boyfriend. Im over him there was nothing good about him anyway. He isn’t that hard to forget about”
Seth had a big smile on his face. It seemed like he was happy that we were over.
“Im proud of you Kayla. He wasn’t ever good for you anyway”
I turned away hiding my smile. “I have never heard you say anything to me like that before. Since when did you decide to agree with me?”
He blushed and narrowed his eyes. “Well it’s just better when you don’t have boyfriends because then your not talking about them all the time and well I’m just looking out for you Kayla”.
I couldn’t help but laugh. That was the biggest excuse he has ever made. I knew that wasn’t what he was actually going to say. I knew when he was lying but then again it was nice to know that he cared. We talked to each other until the bell rang and I realised the teacher would be looking for me. The rest of the day just dragged on.
