Author's name:
Don Loffler
Author description:
Since retiring from the teaching of secondary Latin and German in 1996, Don has devoted himself to researching and writing about his passion - the history of the first two Holden models, the 48-215 (‘FX’) and the iconic FJ. Having made contact with hundreds of people and obtained thousands of photographs, he has published three books and then revised and expanded the first one. His fourth will appear in August 2008 and a fifth is well under way. He owns an original, unrestored 1953 48-215 sedan. Family, friends, music and church interests round out his life.
Latest book:
Me and My Holden: A Nostalgia Trip with the Early Holdens
Wakefield Press, Adelaide, 2008
The book is a nostalgic collection of old photographs from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, showing a fascinating cross section of Australians with their original model Holdens (48-215 ‘FX’ sedans and 50-2106 ‘FX’ utilities) and FJ sedans, utilities and panel vans, in a great variety of Australian settings. Photographs of people at leisure, or on holiday with their tents and caravans, or competing in car trials, or in crises with their broken down vehicles, contribute to the interest value of the book. Almost all of the 300 black-and-white and colour photographs are published for the first time.
