Welcome to the world, SA Writers' Centre!

The first Board of Management of the SAWC was elected at a crowded Public Meeting in the Media Resource Centre on February 27. The same Public Meeting had previously voted unanimously to establish a South Australian Writers' Centre, and had adopted a constitution.

In the Writers' Centre's first newsletter, circulated August 1985, the picture above was published, with the suggestions that 'a suitable logo for the Writers' Centre would be an echidna (writers as reclusive, prickly creatures?) This theme sparked a 'draw an echidna' competition to form the logo to be used.

The initial board was chaired by Andrew Taylor. Members included Jan Owen, Jeri Kroll, Elizabeth Mansutti, Neil Paech, Valerie May, Peter McFarlane, Brian Sheehan and Brooke Watson.
