1986
1986, the SAWC's second year in existence. The years' newsletter was replete with the fantastic word processing graphics showcased above. Its news included the first successful job referral through its directory, and the purchase of the Writers' Centre's first asset! - a label and address software package - when the committee could work out how to use that function!
1986 saw a few events held. 'Immigrant Women '86': a day of information and celebration at the Festival Centre Plaza, with folkloric displays, performance, stalls, exhibitions and readings. 'Club Foote' was the new writing performance club, every Monday evening. Book launches were held for Diane Fahey's book, Voices from the Honeycomb, and for the South East Writer's publication, A Bumper Crop. 1986 saw the Writers' Centre's first Christmas party, combined with Club Foote, on 22 December. Seminars held included 'Getting into Print', 'Multicultural Writers' and 'Staying in Print'.
The 1986 committee of management: Elizabeth Mansutti, Maureen O'Conner, Brook Watson, Jeri Kroll, Christopher Heffernan and Wandrina Douglas Broers. One of its motions was to find a physical space for the Writers' Centre as a first priority.
