Poets on Popeye

Thanks to Adelaide Writers' Week, attendees cruised the River Torrens at sunset, and indulged in readings by poets Lorna Crozier, Geoff Page, Juan Garrido Salgado and Judith Rodriguez.

This ever popular event was enhanced further by fabulous Langmeil wines and local cheeses.

St Lucy's Party

This annual event featured the launching of our Gallery of Book Covers, which was opened by Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee. In the usual SA Writers' Centre tradition, a great time was had by all.

Awards for Literature and Music / Evolve High Beam Festival

The stuff writers' dreams are made of! The Literature awards were in the categories of poetry and prose, music composition, and performance. Entrants were enticed by two $400 prizes, one $100 prize and two Certificates of Merit in each category.

The awards were part of the Evolve High Beam Festival 2004, a unique seven-day cultural experience for people with a disability; their carers, family and friends; professionals working in the disability sector; and and people interested in how the experience of disability can influence one's world view and the art being created.

Writing Groups Summit

This two day event canvassed issues encountered by writers' groups in South Australia, such as self-publishing, promotion, distance and connection, funding through Arts SA and Country Arts SA.

Other 2004 seminars included the Art of Nonfiction; Writing for Children; The Living Novel; Poetry - from Inspiration to Publication; and a Professional Writers' Muster.

Young Authors' Night

Schools were invited to nominate up to three students from years 5-7 for an evening dedicated to the celebration of SA's talented young writers. Groups of students were led by some of SA's finest published authors, including Alan Tucker, Jeri Kroll, Dyan Blacklock, Ian Bone, Janeen Brian, Mike Dumbleton, Rosanne Hawke, Julie Ireland, Daryl McCann, Fiona McIntosh, Robyn Opie, Louise Pike, tony Shillitoe, Ruth Starke, and Annette Wickes

Country Kids Workshops

Thanks to funding form the SA Youth Arts Board, two workshops were run at the SAWC for country students participating in Young Authors' Night, who stayed in Adelaide overnight. Attendees learnt how to improve their writing, and bring stories and characters to life.
