2005
2005—the year of the festival—the SA Writer' Centre was involved in the SA Writers' Festival, Indigenous Writers' Festival, Salisbury Writers' Festival and Barossa Vintage Festival. Thanks to the Telstra Foundation, the SA Writers' Centre ran three Young Authors' Nights during 2005, and, of course, 2005 saw the celebrations of the SAWC's 20th Birthday! - hit the 'publications' and 'where we're at' links above for details of projects and parties undertaken to celebrate this milestone.

RE:VIEWS Conference Dinner
RE:VIEWS was the Writers' Centre's second conference on the reviewing of childrens' books.
Frank Moorhouse was guest speaker at the RE:VIEWS conference dinner. The conference was also attended by international guests Siggi Seuss and Anne Provoost.

Barossa Vintage Festival: Poets and Platters
The SA Writers' Centre held its biennial 'Poets and Platters' at Langmeil Winery in conjunction with the Barossa Vintage Festival. Tickets included supper and a glass of premium wine.
This session featured poetry about contemporary life, our place in history, a bit of philosophy, and even some experimental ideas. Humorous satirical, or just plain outspoken. Guest poets were Stephen Lawrence, Aidan Coleman, Lidija Simkute, Bob Magor and Patricia Irvine.

Indigenous Writers' Festival
This inaugural event was held over the weekend of 9-10 July. A series of panels tackled issues including female and male perspectives on Indigenous writings. The program included music, poetry and The South Australian Indigenous Writers' Group reading their work
.The event was co-ordinated by the SA Writers' Centre's Indigenous Project Officer Yaritji Green. Also pictured are festival panel members Jackie Huggins, Sonja Kurtzer & Kenny Laughton.

SA Writers' Festival
In partnership with the City of Onkaparinga, the 2005 Festival was held from September 8-18. Events included the 'Anne Marie Mykyta Lecture' by Thomas Keneally (details below), 'Southern Young Authors' Night', the 'Montefiore Group', 'Eat Your Words' at the Willunga Farmers' Market (see below), 'Meet the Authors', 'Poets & Pizza' at Coriole, and a day's celebrations at Wirra Wirra Vineyards.
The 2005 festival was thanks to Wirra Wirra Winery, Onkaparinga Libraries, The Arts Centre, Port Noarlunga and the Willunga Farmers' Market.
Andrew Bovell gave the keynote address at the SA Writers' Festival Wirra Wirra Vineyards, Sunday 18 September.

Salisbury Writers' Festival
The Salisbury Writers' Festival was held from Saturday 22 October - Thursday 27 October. It featured many sessions, including 'Squid Ink and Periwinkles' with Elizabeth Mansutti; 'Writing Family / Community Histories' with David Harris; 'Writing Novels' with Stephen Orr; 'Writing for Children' with Christine Harris; 'Poetry Brunch' with Graham Catt and Cathy Young; 'Writing for Television' with Annie Fox; 'Writing Short Stories' with Bill Marsh; and 'The Freelance Writing; with Trevor Gill.
The launch and Awards Presentation evening was held on Friday 21 October, and featured guest speaker Ashley Mallett.
The inaugural 'One Book One Salisbury' program featured 'Knitting' by Anne Bartlett, for adults, and 'Soraya the Storyteller' by Rosanne Hawke, for children.

Time Fractures: Wirra Wirra Short Story Competition
Time Fractures is the 2005 anthology of the best short stories entered in the Wirra Wirra Short Story Competition.
In the words of one of the judges, Nobel Prize Winner JM Coetzee, 'the writers in this anthology seemed to be those who were prepared to let their imaginations roam beyond the people and places they were familiar with, and actually create characters and settings'.

20 Years History: History Summary
Cheryl Jordan is a final year Communications (Professional Writing and Communication) student at UniSA's Magill campus. The Writers' Centre's 20th Anniversary project formed part of her third year studies.
As part of the project, Cheryl researched and compiled a "mini-history" of the South Australian Writers' Centre and worked with Director Barbara Wiesner, and third year design students from the O'Halloran Hill campus of Onkaparinga TAFE, to develop a series of posters that celebrate the Centre's vibrant and colourful history.

20 Years History: Website
Rachel Schmied is a UNISA student completing her final year of a double degree in Computer and Information Science and Arts (Writing and Multimedia). Rachel was asked to participate in the project in lieu of a final year subject, Advanced Technical Writing.
Rachel undertook the building of the 20th Birthday website, which involved designing the layout and navigation of the site, scanning the pictures, writing some text, and figuring out just how to manageably contain so very very much information in one website!

Youth
Young Authors' Night 2005
Thanks to the Telstra Foundation, the SA Writers' Centre ran three Young Authors' Nights during 2005.
Rosanne Hawke was the guest speaker at all three - St Peter's College in the city, Cardijn College at Noarlunga and Tyndale Christian School in Salisbury East. Overall, 271 students from 88 Primary Schools around the state read their work to an audience of 752.
ABC TV's Behind the News interviewed two young writers at the SAWC. Both had taken part in the Young Authors' Night at St Peter's College.
