The SA Writers' Centre has had a number of youth-focussed programs over the years and continues to support younger and emerging writers through our workshop and seminar program and our networking evenings. Our quarterly magazine, Southern Write, also has articles of interest. Click here for our 'Opportunities' sheet, plus we have a 'Tips' page.

Some of our youth initiatives have been:

• the dB Young Writers' Page – published monthly in dB Magazine – has been one of the few outlets for young South Australian writers
• funded by SAYAB and managed by the Centre, Animate Quarterly was a 'live' literary journal held at La Boheme
• Buzzcuts, a partnership with Express Media, where young writers get a chance to attend Adelaide Fringe events and write reviews that will be published in various metro magazines
• The Young Mob, a panel of four young Aboriginal writers chaired by Jared Thomas, that was part of the SA Writers' Festival
• Seventeen year-old Lauren Fuge was part of a panel – 'Emerging Writer Success Stories' – during the 2010 Salisbury Writers' Festival

Some notable South Australian success stories include poet Amelia Walker who was awarded two grants and published her first collection of poetry, Fat Streets and Lots of Squares: Poems for Adelaide, when she was nineteen, Nina Pearce who won the 2010 Jill Blewett Playwright Award for 'This Place' and Ben Chandler, whose Quillblade: Volume I of the Voyages of the Flying Dragon was picked up by Random House Australia.
